Heat Pump Replacement

Statewide HVAC replaces aging heat pump systems across Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Nevada, and Yolo counties — typically when a 12-plus-year-old unit is leaking refrigerant, has a failed compressor, or runs on phased-out R-22. We size the new system to the actual home, upgrade the ductwork or air handler if the match-up requires it, and install to California Title 24.

What heat pump replacement covers

  • Diagnosis of the failing heat pump before quoting a replacement
  • Load calculation + refrigerant match-up on the new system
  • Inverter (variable-speed) and single-stage options with trade-offs
  • Line-set evaluation — replace or reuse, documented honestly
  • Air handler or furnace coil upgrade when the match-up requires it
  • Permit pull, Title 24 compliance, and inspection coordination

Heat Pump Replacement questions, answered

My heat pump uses R-22 — do I have to replace the whole system?

R-22 was phased out in 2020, so new charges are expensive and increasingly limited. When an R-22 system develops a refrigerant leak or compressor issue, the economics typically point toward full replacement with a modern R-410A or R-454B system rather than chasing R-22 repairs.

Can I reuse my existing line set?

Sometimes. If the existing line set is the right diameter, in good condition, and free of oil contamination from the old refrigerant, it can often be reused with proper flushing. On older or mismatched installs, replacing the line set is the honest answer — and we tell you which case you're in before quoting.

Is a single-stage or inverter heat pump worth the upgrade?

Inverter (variable-speed) heat pumps modulate output to match the home's actual load, which translates to better humidity control, quieter operation, and often lower utility bills — at a higher upfront cost. We lay out the real payback math for your specific home instead of defaulting to the premium option.

Does California require permits for a heat pump replacement?

Yes. California Title 24 requires a mechanical permit for a heat pump changeout, with city or county inspection. We handle the permit and the inspection — the install is not finished until it passes.
